Mind Power and Sports

Your Subconscious Mind power and Sports

Your subconscious mind power and sports can work very well together and lead to greater success in competitions.

Unfortunately, the idea of mind power and sports is still resisted by many coaches and athletes. Part of the reason is that they’re not really aware of its enormous benefit in improving their performances by tapping the power of their subconscious mind and properly applying mind power.

So, how important is it to use your subconscious mind in sports?

Mind Power and Sports: It’s Not All About Skills and Physical Fitness

Probably the most famous examples are David and Goliath. Goliath was way bigger and more buff than the puny-looking David. But, all it took was a stone and a sling to bring Goliath down.

So, what does that have to do with sports?

Athletes should learn from David and his mental toughness. His purpose was clear, his belief in his abilities was firm, and he didn’t let the size of his opponent faze him.

It’s the same with sports. Although skills and physical fitness contribute to good performance, there’s always a “secret” ingredient that makes an elite athlete win against other seemingly competent athletes.

What is this “secret” ingredient?

Mind Power: The Missing Ingredient to Sports Glory

“When you get to the elite level in sports, athletically, what separate the really great performers are the ones who are mentally tough and see things a little bit quicker than their competitors.” – Troy Aikman, Sports Analyst, Super Bowl Champion

“Being in the zone” or having “flow” is important for any athlete in order to be fully focused on the game and deliver their best performance. To arrive at this state, the conscious mind needs work with the subconscious mind to synchronize the body’s movements and increase its reaction time. You have to let the subconscious take over and keep the conscious mind focused simply on the details of the game.

The problem is mental barriers (from the conscious mind) often stop this from happening, thus an athlete either becomes completely paralyzed or ends up looking like a clumsy fool on the field.

What are some of these mental barriers?

  • personal or emotional problems
  • fear of failure due to high expectations coming from other people or oneself
  • self-limiting beliefs
  • pessimism
  • poor focus and concentration
  • thinking about something other than the game, like how they’re dressed, who’s watching from the stands, how they look.

The only thing that matters is the game, your role and defeating your opponent. Everything else is just a distraction or are negative thoughts.

Getting rid of a negative mindset can be challenging because it’s often embedded deeply within the subconscious mind. BUT, fortunately, there’s a solution that can be done…

Practice mind power for sports through mental training.

What does mental training mean?

The main purpose of mental training is to help athletes overcome mental barriers that prevent them from reaching their full potential. It helps them determine faulty belief systems or philosophies and exchange them with more positive and healthier beliefs.

What makes a top notch athlete? Aside from talent and physical fitness, he or she must also have:

(1) high self-esteem

(2) self-control

(3) focus and concentration

(4) drive

(5) a positive belief system that says they can succeed

Examples of exercises done in mental training are imagery/visualization, positive self-talk, meditation, and goal setting.

Athletes wishing to reach their peak performance without failure should also focus on developing their mental fitness. Reaping the benefits from working with mind power and sports requires that you also have your coach/trainer on board and working with you to develop positive mental patterns, beliefs and the metal focus you need to succeed.
