Creative Visualization: The Conscious and the Subconscious

Our mind is divided into two separate but closely linked levels—the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious is logical while the subconscious is creative.

The conscious mind is the one you’re using right now to read this article. However, the one who’s doing the analysis and storage of information is the subconscious mind.

Your subconscious mind doesn’t know what’s real or imagined, true or false, wrong or right. It depends on the consciousness to feed it information while it just keeps on accepting it without filtering.

The thoughts that are repeatedly played on the “awareness” (or conscious) level are going to be absorbed by the “unconscious” (subconscious) mind.

Thinking that they’re important, your subconscious mind will do anything necessary to make those thoughts and beliefs a reality.

That’s why mental exercises, such as visualization, work so well when trying to re-program the subconscious mind.

How Does Visualization Work In Priming The Subconscious?

It’s basically the same with daydreaming or fantasizing. Although in order to achieve the desired result, you have to execute this using the proper techniques.

Visualization, particularly creative visualization, works by creating a mental picture or painting of a desired goal. It is helpful because it re-formats or eliminates negative beliefs, and it’s also a crucial ingredient for attracting people or circumstances to achieve success.

So, what are the important things to remember when doing this?

1) It’s not going to be a “walk in the park.” Especially if it doesn’t agree with your deeply rooted beliefs, half of the time you might be defending yourself and your stand that visualization works.

2) But, don’t give up! Just keep doing it until the opposition weakens.

3) Your mind and body should be in good condition. It’s useless to do this if you’re hungry or you lack sleep. You won’t be able to concentrate at all.

4) Pick a specific want or goal.

5) Be detailed, but don’t be too overly detailed. Your subconscious mind doesn’t need a 100-page action plan report.

6) Since this is “creative visualization,” you have to create a vivid mental picture of your goal. The more realistic, the better.

7) Don’t focus on contradictory thoughts. Just let it pass and go back to what you were visualizing.

If you want to change your reality, change what’s on your subconscious and give it you new instructions.

Race car drivers such as Bobby Unser, former Indy Champ, said he would visualize driving around a track repeatedly, feeling every turn before race day. He attributes much of his success to Creative Visualization and directing the subconscious mind.

To get results with visualization you have to practice and do it repeatedly. Once or twice a week or once or twice a month won’t be enough. It has to be planted on your subconscious – that’s when you get results.
